After COP26, many people are keen to find new ways to cut waste and curb climate change. One of the biggest changes will be the switch from diesel or petrol vehicles to cleaner alternatives. Perhaps the discussions at COP26 have made you rethink your school run journeys and convinced you to buy or rent an electric car.
We know new electric vehicles can be much, much more expensive than new conventional vehicles, making it unaffordable for many. While we know this will change as green technology develops further, we also want people to feel confident that they’re helping the environment for future generations.
That’s why we specialise in electric vehicle (EV) rental. When you rent an electric car, it can work out much more affordable than buying one outright. Today, we’re going to talk through one of our favourite EVs!
Does the ZOE stand the test of time?
The Renault ZOE has been one of the most successful electric vehicles (EVs) since it launched nearly 10 years ago. In 2020, over 100,000 units of the ZOE were sold in Europe. It actually outsold the infamous Tesla Model 3!
While it maintains its high reputation, where does the Renault ZOE fit in the modern EV market?
Since its release, the ZOE has had some major upgrades. Just from looking at the ZOE, you can see new models have been fitted with a new face and new lights. While inside, you’ll find a sleeker, more premium cabin.
Renault have also made sure to use sustainable materials when designing all of the new ZOEs. For example, the front and rear seat fabric is actually made out of recycled seatbelts. Things like this push the ZOE even further towards sustainability.
They’ve also splashed out on a bigger infotainment screen which is much more responsive. Crucially, the ZOE now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto inbuilt – which is all anyone really uses nowadays.
One of the biggest bonuses to the current Renault ZOEs is the battery and range. For a vehicle released back in 2012, Renault have really spent the time developing their EV tech. Now, there’s a 25% bigger battery on the ZOE.
This is huge. It pushes the ZOE to the top end of the spectrum for small electric cars. The new ZOE GT Line can travel up to 220 miles before needing a charge. This is something many brand new small cars cannot match. For example, the similarly sized Honda E has a range of only 137 miles, likewise the Mini Electric can only travel 145 miles max.
The ZOE is an all-around, impressive package and is one of the only small EVs that can venture beyond the city without giving anyone range anxiety.

A new Renault electric?
Renault are keen to show their dedication to electric vehicles, even naming themselves the ‘leader’ in EVs! Along with the ZOE, Renault also produces the Twingo Electric, Spring Electric, Master E-Tech and the Kangoo.
Earlier this year, Renault unveiled their newest concept car – the Renault 5. You may be thinking you;ve heard that before and you probably have! The Renault 5 is a new all-electric version of the classic R5 model.
The original 5 was released in 1972 and by 1980 it was one of the best-selling cars in the world. Of course, back then we didn’t know the extent of which car impacted the environment. Now, Renault is putting a modern twist on a timeless classic.
Calling it the “nouvelle vague” of Renault, we imagine there will be numerous references to the original car. Renault have confirmed the 5 will use the same electric technology as the ZOE, however exact specifications are yet to be finalised.
What we do know is that the Renault 5 will be a five door supermini. Renault have confirmed it will feature flared wheel arches, the headlights and the upright rear lights, similar to the original.
There will be an off-center bonnet air-intake cleverly serving as the EV charging point and fog lights in the lower front bumper serving as daytime running lights. But, that’s about all we know! The 5 does look fantastic, a mix of the Honda E and Volkswagen’s ID.3 style-wise.
We can’t wait to see what the finished model actually looks like and perhaps add some to our ever-growing fleet! But for now, don’t forget to visit EVision when you want to rent an electric car.
