So, you’ve hired your electric car and you’re ready for a fun day out around County Durham. Unfortunately, electric vehicle charging points aren’t ten-a-penny like petrol stations, so you’ll need to choose your destination wisely. Luckily for you, we have a sound knowledge of charging stations around the Durham area, and we’ve highlighted some must see sights that come with a charging station!

Wharton Park, Durham

If you want the very best views of Durham City, then Wharton Park is a must visit. Here, the charging station is located in a layby, just off the A691. Whilst you wait for your vehicle to charge, you can get a drink and a snack at the cafe. If you have little ones, there are plenty of play areas to keep them amused.

Most importantly, if you venture up to the viewing platform in the centre of the park, you will get one of the best views of Durham Cathedral that County Durham has to offer.

Diggerland, Langley Park

When you visit Diggerland Durham for the day, you can charge your electric vehicle right there in the car park. While you and your family have fun playing on diggers and dumper trucks, you’ll be safe in the knowledge that your car will be charged by a Tesla Destination Charger. Diggerland does not provide adapters for other electric vehicles, though patrons are welcome to bring their own.

Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street

Another fantastic day out in County Durham can be had at Riverside Park in Chester-le-Street. Over the summer, your children can enjoy playing in the active water features, as well as the adventure playground. Moreover, the park is dog friendly, and even offers entertainment for the kids along the walking route, in the form of a sculpture garden. The car park here boasts four electric vehicle charging points.

Preston Park Museum & Grounds, Stockton-on-Tees

Preston Park is an amazing day out for all age groups. Older people can enjoy the museum and galleries, while families can make the most of the playground and butterfly garden. You can even take a dive into history by visiting the Victorian Street for some sweets. Electric vehicle charging is available behind the museum, next door to Butterfly World.

Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, South Shields

A day at the funfair is always amazing, especially when you can charge your electric vehicle right next door. You can spend the day running around the different rides, popping over to the beach and even enjoying an ice cream whilst your electric vehicle gets powered up. Two charging stations are available at the Pier Head car park, just a five minute walk from Ocean Beach Pleasure Park.
