Of all current car manufacturers none has had a more controversial history than that of Volkswagen. Long before the days of the Volkswagen ID.3, Volkswagen started under the Nazi party and was kept afloat in the early years by the fascist government. They even used slave labour during the war years to help manufacture their vehicles at the time.
However, after the war it was the British military who took over control of the company for a time before handing it back to the post-war German government some time later. After all, although there is a dark start to the company, the mission statement of Volkswagen was a good one. Make cars affordable to everyday people, hence the name Volkswagen (people’s car). Volkswagen have long-since shed the early image and they are a great modern company. They have also proceeded to build great electric cars for the people.
Volkswagen, like so many other manufacturers, have moved seamlessly into the electric vehicle market. The ID range of Volkswagen cars has proven to be very popular. We absolutely love both the ID.3 and the ID.4. In this article I will look specifically at the former, the ID.3.
Covering the Basics
The Volkswagen ID.3 is a small hatchback. Something that needs to be pointed out is that there is still a distinct shortage of these smaller cars. A lot of focus has been put on the SUV style or big luxury vehicles. It is, however, the small and humble hatchback that we would like to see more of. Electric versions of the popular hatchbacks of the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. Cars such as the Peugeot 106, the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Ka. The Volkswagen ID.3 fits the brief perfectly in my opinion.
This is a cute car that has a lovely rounded shape around the edges. The ID.3 really brings the hatchback into the 21st Century. This car has an almost bubble shape that harks back to the design language of the earlier VW vehicles. It is simply lovely.
Stepping Inside
Even though the Volkswagen ID.3 is a small hatchback, the interior of the car is surprisingly spacious. The seats are incredibly comfortable and you could quite happily spend a good amount of time sitting in the vehicle.
Although the design of the cabin is simple and uncluttered, it is by no means cheap looking. You can tell that this is a quality vehicle that has been designed for mass popularity. This is an approach that has obviously worked.
The infotainment screen is in a landscape position and looks really nice on the dashboard. This is packed full of useful applications and it is easy to navigate through and use. The responsiveness has improved massively since the early days thanks to over-the-air updates, and it is a joy to use.
A Great Performance From the Volkswagen ID.3
There is a good reason that the Volkswagen ID.3 has proven to be so popular. Not only is it a good sized small family car, it is also reliable and able to give the driver what they need from such a vehicle. This is not a sportscar and, as such, it’s not going to have the speed of some of the other models on the market, such as the Tesla Model 3 or Tesla Model Y. What you get, though, is perfect.
This 2WD car gives you a range of 180 miles in real world range. Of course, this can be considerably more with careful driving. The top speed is 99mph which is more than enough for British roads, and the 0-60mph time is just 7.7 seconds. So, as you can see, this electric vehicle still has some oomph when you need to move quickly.
The Volkswagen ID.3 is available to hire from EVision now. Get one for yourself and see why this has been such a popular choice for so many.
