Devon - View of Exeter castle for Electric car rental in Devon blog

Summer is here and it is the perfect time to go for a day out. So, with this in mind, I am putting together a series of blog posts about the wonderful locations in the UK where you can hire an electric vehicle from EVision. In this blog post I will give you the lowdown on some places to go and what to do when you get an electric car rental in Devon from us.

More about Devon

Devon is famous for many reasons. Whether it is the delicious cream teas, the beautiful beaches, or the incredible history, Devon will have something for you. Sir Walter Raleigh hailed from Devon, and the Mayflower set sail for the New World from Devonshire shores (Plymouth to be exact). However, you can see the sights with a vehicle more familiar to the 21st Century. Whether you hire a BMW i3, a Renault Zoe, an MG ZS or any other electric car from our fleet, you will happily be able to travel around the county without any issues.

What to See and Do With an Electric Car Rental in Devon

Devon, nestled in the South-West of England, offers an abundance of natural beauty and charming attractions for visitors. One of the region’s most popular destinations is Dartmoor National Park, a vast moorland dotted with granite tors, wild ponies, and scenic walking trails. Whether you’re an avid hiker or simply looking to enjoy the fresh air and panoramic views, Dartmoor’s rugged landscape promises an unforgettable experience. History enthusiasts can also explore ancient stone circles, Bronze Age settlements, and the mysterious Hound Tor, which inspired Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Along Devon’s coastline, there’s no shortage of stunning seaside towns and beaches. The English Riviera, comprising Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham, offers traditional seaside fun with sandy beaches, fish and chips, and palm-lined promenades. Further north, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast begins in East Devon, where visitors can hunt for fossils or simply marvel at the dramatic cliffs and rock formations. For a more tranquil seaside experience, the South Hams area features picturesque villages such as Salcombe and Dartmouth, known for their sailing culture, boutique shops, and fresh seafood.

Cultural experiences in the county are just as varied and engaging. Exeter, the county’s historic city, boasts a magnificent Gothic cathedral and an underground passage network dating back to medieval times. Totnes offers a quirky, bohemian atmosphere with independent shops, alternative health centres, and a well-preserved Norman castle. Families will enjoy a day out at attractions like the Big Sheep while food lovers can indulge in cream teas, locally produced cider, and the celebrated Devon pasty. Whether you’re after outdoor adventure, coastal relaxation or rich heritage, Devon provides a little something for everyone.

Where You Can Find Electric Car Rental in Devon

EVision has satellite locations at each of the Diggerland theme parks. In Devon this can be found at Verbeer Manor, Willand, Cullompton, EX15 2PE. This is just north east of Exeter off the M5, and situated fairly centrally in the county. You can find out more about this location, including directions, here.

Diggerland shares the EVision ethos of sustainability and green practices. Not only does Diggerland offer electric charging free to customers of the theme park and EVision, they also power their chargers using solar panels on the roof. You can find out more about Diggerland’s commitment to sustainability here.

Longer Tours and Public Charging

If you are someone who likes to travel along the coast, taking in the natural beauty of the Devonshire coastline, then you may want an EV with more mileage between charges when you obtain your electric car rental in Devon. This is absolutely no problem at all. EVision has a wide range of electric cars that have a real world range of well over 200 miles.

There is the Kia EV6 with a real world range of 255 miles. However, achieving over 300 miles is entirely possible with careful driving in summer conditions. Our Mercedes EQS has an incredible real world range of 400 miles, meaning that there should be absolutely no range anxiety whatsoever!

When it comes to public charging, we highly recommend using ZapMap as a guide to where you can find charge points in any location. You may not even need this, as most of our vehicles will be able to guide you to public charge points when you use the satellite navigation. Finding public charging in Devon will not be an issue and should not be something you worry about. There are plenty of charging locations situated around the county. Especially on the M5, along the coast and in large clusters near all major towns and cities.

A Few Final Words

Devon is a beautiful part of the country, and it is a place that deserves to be explored. What better way to do so than with an electric car hire in Devon. This way you can see all the sights without polluting the atmosphere. You will also enjoy a quieter and more comfortable journey as you do so.

I will be back with more local guides for our locations in Kent, Yorkshire and Durham. Wherever you plan to be this summer, EVision will be there with you.
