The MG4 has just been judged by an expert panel to be the “Best Family Car” of 2023, at the UK Car of the Year Awards. But what is it that makes this particular electric car the one that all families should take notice of? We’ve broken down five major reasons you should consider the MG4 to be your next family car.
Amazing Price
The MG4 is marketed as an affordably priced family car. In fact, you will struggle to find a starter electric vehicle that comes at such a good price. Even the more expensive models still undercut the price of a lot of the MG4s competitors.
On top of this, the MG4 is expected to depreciate more slowly than most of its rivals, including the Cupra Born and the iD3. Moreover, the MG4, which retails for £26,995, is substantially cheaper than its combustion engine competitors, e.g. the Ford Focus.
Plenty of space
The boot of the MG4 has enough space to fit a pram, a medium sized dog and up to 10 shopping bags comfortably. In the top-of-the-range Trophy, you can adjust the height of the boot, to give you even more space. Passengers can travel comfortably in the back of the car, as there is plenty of rear leg room. Even the middle seat is quite comfortable, due to the central hump in the floor being quite low.
Top safety rating
Those using the MG4 as a family vehicle will be pleased to know it has received a 5 star safety rating from Euro NCPA. It also received 83% and 80% scores for adult and child occupant protection. Additionally, it received a score of 78% for its inbuilt safety features.
Every model of the MG4 includes lane-assistance, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam assist and driver attention alert. Higher specification models include blind-spot monitoring and lane change assist, amongst other features.
Brilliant range
At the most basic level, the MG4 comes with 218 miles of range. The battery can be charged to 100% in 8 hours from a wallbox charger, or 39 minutes from a rapid charger. Of course, your actual efficiency will depend on the kind of journey you make.
If you do more motorway miles for example, you might see your car do closer to 200 miles, whereas if you do more local driving, you’ll probably only charge your car every few days.
Practicality
When you have children in the car regularly, you need a car that will make everything run a little bit smoother. Every model of the MG4 comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it super easy to connect and use your smartphone in the car. Additionally, the fit and finish is soft touch leather and fabric, making it easy to wipe away stains and hoover up crumbs.
