Ever since Volkswagen revealed that they were releasing an electric version of their classic van, there was a massive buzz (pardon the pun) in the electric vehicles world. The ID.Buzz has been an incredibly popular vehicle. We have displayed the EVision Volkswagen ID.Buzz at several shows, including the fantastic Fully Charged Live South event.
However, something we have been asked a lot is whether there is a 7-seater version or a full-on camper version coming. Well, the answer is yes and yes. In this blog I will review the ID.Buzz Life which is currently available to hire. I will then look at the ID.Buzz vans that are coming in the near future.
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz Life
This version of the ID.Buzz was released earlier this year and has been a winner amongst the EVision customers. There is so much to like about this electric vehicle. It is a seriously fun design, it’s big and spacious, and it’s also fun to drive. The ID.Buzz Life makes an all-round perfect family vehicle to take on days out.
When it comes to the spec numbers that the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Life puts up, this is an electric vehicle with great real world practicality. The real world range is a highly respectable 205 miles, and there is a very quick charging speed capability of up to 175kW. This allows the vehicle to be charged from 10-80% in just 30 minutes.
Going Bigger
As mentioned earlier, a lot of people have been asking us about a 7-seater version of the ID.Buzz. The current version is a 5-seater with absolutely loads of room throughout the cabin, but many people want a big vehicle to carry more passengers.
Well, you don’t have too much longer to go until a bigger version is released. We are expecting the official release to be in 2024, which is a little later than I originally expected to be honest. However, it is better late than never.
The new version will come as both a 6 or 7-seater van and will be on a longer wheelbase. This new version will be 25cm longer than the current van that is available. This is quite a considerable amount of extra room for a vehicle and it allows for the extra row of seats to be installed without compromising on space in the cabin. The 6-seater version will have large captain style seats in the rear for even greater comfort.
As there is quite a bigger battery being used for the longer wheelbase van, this is expected to equate to a longer range. WLTP figures are expected to be around the 300 mile range. As a result, we should see a real world range of closer to 250 miles. This is pretty exceptional.
What About An Actual Campervan?!
When it comes to the ID.Buzz, this is the version that people want to see more than anything. A proper campervan from a manufacturer famous for making them, and also making them in an iconic manner.
Well, there is both good and bad news about this. The good news is that there will definitely be a campervan version released in the near future. Unfortunately we will have to wait until at least 2025 before we see it. There is also a good chance that it may not be in production until 2026 or 2027. And as the manufacture date is so far in the future, we can only guess as to what it will look like.
However, we don’t have to use our imagination too much due to the fact that there are some people who have converted the ID.Buzz Life into actual campers. I do imagine, however, that the actual campervan being released by Volkswagen will be longer wheelbase versions. The home conversions are definitely cute and usable though. I have to take my hat off to the teams who have put the hard work in.
Final Thoughts
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz still has some legs left in it still. The excitement about the upcoming releases is palpable. I know that we can’t wait to see the long wheelbase version of the ID.Buzz. We are mostly looking forward to seeing the camper version coming out.
