While watching television last night it suddenly occurred to me how blasé I have become to seeing electric vehicles advertised on the television. I found this quite pleasing as it meant that electric vehicles are advertised so regularly that I don’t even think anything unusual about it.
The reason I say this is because I remember writing a blog post just 3 years ago when the very first television advert for an electric car appeared on the TV. It was a big event for me working in the world of electric vehicles. That moment in time was a huge watershed moment for the industry and one that would snowball in a very short space of time. It meant that electric vehicles were now mainstream.
These days, whether you are watching ITV, Channel 4, Freevee or any other channel with adverts, it is not uncommon to see advertisements for a number of electric vehicles during the course of an evening. Four of these vehicles that I see advertised a lot are makes and models that we hire out at EVision.
Here is a short review of each of the adverts.
Cupra Born – A New Generation of Electric Vehicles
One advert that has been prominent for several months now is the one for the Cupra Born. We are expecting delivery of our first Cupra Born cars any time now, and this is one that we are really excited about. The popularity of the Cupra Born is clear to see as more and more are appearing on our roads all the time.
Cupra Born has been thrust into the limelight of many homes due to the fact that they are the sponsors of mystery dramas on ITV. And, as we know, ITV has lots of great drama series available. With the advert for the Cupra Born before the programme, at the end of the programme and at the start and finish of every advert break, it is hardly surprising that this vehicle has been thrust into prominence.
Cupra needed to have a big advertising campaign. Nothing to do with the car itself, which is amazing, but because they are a brand new company in the vehicle manufacturing world. Exposure for them is key. Cupra couldn’t have planned it any better.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 – Electric Vehicles Are For Everyone
When we first saw the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the metal at the Fully Charged Show Outside in 2021 we knew that we were witnessing something special. Not only did we love this vehicle, but we could tell that it was a popular choice for the crowds of people in attendance. EVision were one of the first companies in the UK to get our hands on the Ioniq 5 and we have found them to be one of the most popular cars we have ever had in.
One of the first things you notice about the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is how futuristic it looks. The shape of the body, the lights and the overall styling is something we have not seen before. It was futuristic, it was still sort of retro, it was very cool. The technology as well is more advanced than many vehicles that have gone before. These advances have raised questions as to whether an older generation would be left behind. This is where the Hyundai Ioniq 5 advert is so brilliant.
In the advert we see a man arrive at his parent’s house in a brand new Hyundai Ioniq 5. The man greets his father and asks “have you ever seen one of these?” referring to his new electric car. His father smiles, holds up his hand with an electric garage door key in his fingers. The garage door opens to reveal a Hyundai Ioniq 5 charging in the garage.
The inclusive message of this advert is heartwarming, funny and important. Electric cars are for everyone, no matter what age you are.

Audi E-Tron – A Fashion Icon Wears Electric Vehicles
Audi is a stylish and luxurious brand that wants to show off that it is not only green, but also extremely cool and fashionable as well as modern. This message has been nailed by the company’s current advert.
Who better to promote this message than style icon, Stella McCartney. We see Ms McCartney driving her Audi e-tron past lush greenery, then past ultra-modern buildings. The scenes switch between fashion shots and shots of the car. She tells us that “we can make fashion slow and we can make sustainability fast”.
The advert finishes with Stella McCartney getting out of her Audi e-tron in front of a very cool, modern and sustainable home where she plugs the car in. Message received loud and clear. Job well done.

The Quirky and Fun Vauxhall Mokka-E
The message behind the Mokka-e advert is that this is one of the most fun and different electric vehicles. And, to add my two cents, this is an entirely appropriate message for this car. The Vauxhall Mokka-e really is a fun small car to drive. It also has its own character.
Back to the advert. We see a lady behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Mokka-e. She drives out of a garage and along a bright street, past lots of people with curious pigeon heads. This lost me for a bit until we get to the end of the advert when we are told that the Mokka-e is impossible to pigeonhole. Clever.
