The Mercedes EQS has arrived at EVision!

There’s yet another new addition to EVision Electric Vehicles’ Mercedes EQ fleet! This time it’s the brand’s flagship electric car, the Mercedes EQS. We’ve seen plenty of sporty, expensive electric cars, such as the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, but the  Mercedes EQS is the manufacturers first attempt at a high-end, luxury car with electric power to match.

It’s not just potential buyers of the Mercedes EQS who should be interested in this EV, but rather every potential Mercedes buyer for the next decade – or more! S-badged Mercedes vehicles have typically been known to advertise the dazzling new technology Mercedes have under their belt and the EQS is no exception.

Eventually, this level of technology and trim may filter down into more affordable models, but for now, they’re exclusive to the EQS. At the moment, there are two different variants available; the EQS 450+ and the AMG EQS 53.  Buyers of the 450+ model can choose from five trim levels, while the AMG models come in both Night Edition and Touring variations.

Interior design and technology

Usually, we would start a car review with the technical stuff like its range, driving performance and charging capabilities. But, the Mercedes EQS is different. No one can ignore the design of this car. So, if looks matter to you, the Mercedes EQS oozes class and style.

The interior of this premium electric car is just as, if not more, impressive as the exterior. The cabin feels absolutely huge inside and it’s stunning to look at. Mercedes’ unique MBUX system is by far one of the best in the business. Dare we say, better than Tesla’s technology…

As well as looking incredible, the Mercedes’ infotainment system is super easy and convenient to use. Those looking to invest in the EQS can (expensively) upgrade to the Hyperscreen package which combines three screens into one giant expanse of glass covering the whole dashboard.

There’s a couple of different interior trims to choose from, a lot of which are actually included in the basic pricing. Overall, we’re thoroughly impressed with the EQS so far, but let’s see how it performs.

Range, charging and performance

As expected, the Mercedes EQS delivers instant and seamless acceleration when you put your foot down. Here at EVision, we have the 450+, four-wheel drive model and it does not disappoint. It can accelerate to 62mph in just 6.2 seconds and has a ginormous range of 487 miles. That is insane!!

Considering the incredibly large range of the Mercedes EQS, the car has equally as impressive charging capabilities. When charging on the go with a 150kW charge point, you can expect the Mercedes EQS to charge to 80% in just 32 minutes!

Those looking for an even sportier EQS will seriously enjoy the AMG model. It has a slightly smaller range of 355 miles, which is still massive! In comparison, the Porsche Taycan Long Range has a driving range of just over 300 miles. The EQS is by far one of the best electric cars on the market.

What the AMG model does lack in range, it makes up for in acceleration. It’s a lot quicker than the 450+ variant, hitting 62mph in just 3.8 seconds. This is ever so slightly slower than the Taycan, but still incredibly impressive.

So, are there any downsides to the EQS?

In short, we’d like to say no. But, in reality, there’s quite a big one. As you’ve probably imagined, the Mercedes EQS is pretty expensive to buy new. In fact, it’s one of the most electric cars you can buy. The cheapest model has a starting price of £102,000, but with some additional luxuries the EQS could cost you a whopping £170,000.

It’s a pretty pricey electric car for sure, but is it worth it? Well, we do love the Mercedes EQS. With its long range and impressive technology, we can see why this is the brand’s flagship EV. But, it’s still extremely expensive for everyday motorists who want an electric car.

That’s exactly why we’d hire a Mercedes EQS instead of buying one! Unless you’re really rolling in cash, the EQS’ price point just isn’t realistic. It’s much more affordable to hire a high-end electric vehicle like the EQS as you’ll be making a small monthly payment to drive one of the best electric cars on the road.

Here at EVision, you can hire a Mercedes EQS from just £44.48 per day over a three year rental period. Plus, that includes all of your maintenance and servicing costs! What are you waiting for? This is the latest addition to our all-electric fleet so you could be the first to drive the EQS!
