Polestar – The all-electric brand making the future a reality!

Rent a Polestar 2

As electric vehicles light the way to a green, zero-emissions future, there’s one EV brand that is really pushing the boat out. That brand is Polestar, who recently unveiled the Polestar o2 concept car, which is set to rival the Tesla Roadster.

Continue reading to learn more about the awesome Polestar o2 concept! Plus, learn about how you could rent a Polestar 2 from EVision Electric Vehicles today!

Who is Polestar?

Polestar is a Swedish-Chinese car manufacturing company who originated as a branch of Volvo. The brand started off as the banner for Volvo’s motorsports activity but then became the performance badge for Volvo. Now, Polestar has graduated into a standalone car manufacturer.

At the moment, Polestar have two electric models available in the UK, the aptly named Polestar 1 and Polestar 2. Both models are full of class and style, and could easily take on the likes of Tesla or Porsche. However, the Polestar 1 is actually a plug-in hybrid, rather than a pure electric vehicle. The brand also has the Polestar Precept, or Polestar 5, which is yet to be released.

Polestar’s “hero car”?

Now, the manufacturer is going above and beyond by unveiling their o2 concept car. While the rest of the EV market devote their time to designing sleek SUVs, Polestar seems to have gone in the complete opposite direction.

Instead, the o2 is a 2+2 hard-top convertible, similar to the Tesla Roadster. Of course, Tesla discontinued the Roadster back in 2012. BUT, they’re supposedly making a comeback. In 2017, the US-based brand announced a second generation of Roadsters would be in development and potentially on the road by the end of 2023.

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has also gone as far as to say the new Roadster models could have up to 620 miles of range. That’ll put the Roadster way, way above any other EV on the market.

Unfortunately, Polestar hasn’t been as open about the stats on the o2 (if it were produced). In fact, at the moment the Polestar o2 is just a concept without plans of production. We’re sad too.

However, Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar Americas, has said that Polestar wants to directly challenge Porsche in design, performance and innovation. Plus, CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, says it would be “irresponsible” for the brand not to push the o2 into production.

Even though Polestar are yet to release the full technical details of the o2, they have shared that the vehicle would use the same performance powertrain as seen in the Polestar 5. As a purely electric brand, Polestar is big on sustainability.

It’s no surprise that the o2 has a huge focus on sustainability in terms of its design and materials. The brand says the vehicle makes use of recycled material where possible, including recycled polyester for the soft interior.

We really hope Polestar decided to go ahead with the o2 and it’s futuristic design! We’d love to see these on UK roads.

Polestar’s first EV?

Ironically, the Polestar 1 was actually the brand’s second electric model to hit UK forecourts, beaten by the Polestar 2. The Polestar 1 is a bold performance hybrid car, and we can’t help but notice how classy it looks. Polestar first released some level of pricing for their first EV back in 2018, and today the Polestar 1 will cost you a whopping £135,500 (or more).

For that big price tag, you are getting some great stats too. The Polestar 1 is capable of 0-62mph in under four seconds and, according to Polestar, has an all-electric range of 77 miles. That’s really not bad for a hybrid.

If we could describe the Polestar 1 in one word it would be “special”. Even with Volvo-style features, the Polestar 1 feels special to drive, look at and sit in. Although quite obviously related to Volvo in terms of design, Polestar have made sure to give their EVs some defining features.

One of which is the LED front headlights which resemble the shape of Thor’s hammer. Details like yellow seatbelts and a leather-lined dashboard completely elevate the interior.

Punchy pure electric performance!

As stated earlier, the first all-electric vehicle from the Swedish-Chinese brand is the stunning Polestar 2 and it has certainly made a statement. It’s a five-door hatchback and seriously gives the Tesla Model 3 something to worry about. Priced majorly lower than the Polestar 1, the Polestar 2 starts from £40,900.

That’s ever so slightly less than the Tesla Model 3, which has a starting price of £43,990. Personally, we think you’re getting a lot more for your money with Polestar’s pure electric model, but we’ll let you decide.

The Polestar 2 has a range of around 292 miles (WLTP) and it sure is punchy too! Acceleration from  0-62mph only takes the Polestar 2 a mere 4.7 seconds. Meanwhile, there’s a top speed of 127mph. All in all, the Polestar 2 has made its mark on the EV market.

While the interior has it’s Volvo features, Polestar have done a great job to give this EV it’s on personality. The interior is minimalistic and fresh.Plus, the build quality in the Polestar models is impressive. It also won’t take you long to spot Polestar’s signature yellow seat belts! In terms of tech, Polestar seems to have hit the nail on the head again! There’s a 11.2-inch portrait display which could easily compare to Tesla quality technology.
