EV News: Electric vehicle revolution fuels rise in new car sales across the UK.

EV News: New figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that the number of new cars sold in the UK increased in November 2021 – the first time in four months! As people look for more eco-friendly forms of transport, EV (electric vehicle) sales have more than doubled in November.

Almost 22,000 pure electric vehicles were registered in November 2021, which is more than double the 10,345 registered in November 2020. All-electric vehicles now hold 19% of the total market share.

Meanwhile, sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles also increased from last year with an additional 3,000 vehicles being sold. Altogether, BEV (battery electric vehicles) and plug-in hybrid vehicles hold a record breaking 28% of the market share.

The Tesla Model 3 follows closely behind Mini and the Vauxhall Corsa, as the third best-selling vehicle, and the best-selling electric vehicle. Tesla is one of, if not the biggest, electric car provider across the Western world however, they still only have 15% of the market for new EV sales.

November 2021 saw further evidence of how fast the Volkswagen group’s brands were trying to secure a share of the market, with Volkswagen and Audi brands between them holding 15.3% of the market, beating Tesla.

Likewise, the Hyundai-Kia group were pushing boundaries to secure a total of 14% across their brands. We imagine this will only grow with the release of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, both of which are set to be extremely popular.

Niche brands dominate the list of the top brands that have been the quickest to electrify, with DS (43%), Lexus (40%) and Jaguar (34%) in the top three. Meanwhile, Renault, Kia and Audi creep their way up the list as they begin to release more electric options.

Here at EVision, we pride ourselves in being able to provide the newest EV models to our customers. One of our all time favourites is the Tesla Model 3, and our customers agree! In case you’re not familiar with the different Tesla models, the Model 3 is a simple and sleek saloon which stays true to Musk’s maxi-minimalist design.

The standard Model 3 comes with a range of 278 miles, which is tons more than most standard EVs! Then you can level up to the Model 3 Long Range and enjoy a whopping 360 miles! But, if you’re more interested in performance, we’d opt for the Model 3 Performance Long Range which will offer you 352 miles, but huge acceleration.

In fact, the Performance model does 0-60mph in a tiny 3.3 seconds. To be fair, the other two models are extremely speedy too (it is a Tesla after all). The Long Range model reaches 60mph in 4.2 seconds, and the Standard in 5.6 seconds. There’s also a maximum speed of up to 162mph, depending on which model you choose.

When you step into the driving seat, the Model 3 is a smooth, comfortable and luxurious drive. However, getting used to the interior may take some… adjusting. The level wood dashboard runs the full width of the car, while all important information is stored on a 15-inch landscape touchscreen.

EVs that are changing the game

If you’re not keen on the techy-Tesla, then perhaps one of these EVs will be more to your liking! Let’s start with possibly our favourite new electric vehicle… the Kia EV6. We’ve been excited about this car since it was announced, but when we received our own it was more than we could have imagined!

As Kia’s first bespoke electric vehicle,  the EV6 has some fantastic stats, including a range of 314 miles (and that’s on the standard model)! We all know that an EV’s range can depend on various factors, including how often drivers use the heating or aircon. However, Kia has fitted a snazzy feature for the EV6 to avoid losing masses of miles. The EV6 features a heat pump which searches for waste heat from the vehicle’s coolant system. This means that even in temperatures below zero the car can achieve 80% of its claimed range.

Then, there’s the small stat of 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds!! Yes, quicker than a standard Tesla Model 3! Merge that with Kia’s brilliant design style which comprises both luxurious style and practicality. We can see the EV6 becoming a mainstream family vehicle as it really does tick every box.

In terms of infotainment, there’s a 12.3-inch digital display. Unlike what you might find in a Tesla, Kia have opted to keep some traditional buttons and dials, which we really love. It really moves the EV6 between stylish and convenient. Alongside that, there’s actually a really great amount of room in the EV6.

Kia’s super sister-car!

If you like the sound of the Kia EV6, you’ll probably be interested in the Hyundai Ioniq 5! As you may know, Kia and Hyundai are sister companies and therefore their EVs are designed on the same platforms.

While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is new to the EV market, the manufacturer has wasted no time in stacking up awards. This Ionic has already been awarded four awards by Auto Express Magazine alone, including their Car of the Year 2021 award.

The sleek design of the Ioniq 5 is a brilliant homage to Hyundai’s heritage, but this EV is completely reimagined for the future! Packed with eco-friendly and recycled materials, Hyundai have pushed sustainability to the forefront of Ioniq 5 as much as possible.

We’re very excited to have the Hyundai Ioniq 5 joining our all-electric fleet very soon! Fancy being one of the first to hire this spectacular vehicle? Be sure to register your interest here so you don’t miss out!
