Since Kia announced they were producing another all-electric SUV, drivers from across the country have been anticipating it’s release. It’s even been dubbed the ‘most important Kia ever’, but why?
Well, firstly, the EV6 is following Kia’s hugely successful e-Niro model. The Kia e-Niro was even the first electric car to ever win WhatCars? Car of the Year back in 2019! It ticks all boxes that a family could need. It has a brilliant range, plus it’s practical.
Kia have always been great at producing high-quality EVs (electric vehicles) that are convenient and practical for their target audience. However, they wanted to brand further afield with the EV6.
Firstly, the Kia EV6 is the first electric vehicle from the Hyundai-Kia group to be built on their Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This is a platform dedicated solely to EV design, meaning the EV6 has been designed using electric vehicle architecture from the ground up. It’s certainly exciting!
The Kia EV6 has also been used as the vehicle to reinvent Kia as a brand. Usually Kia are known for their great value and long warranties, however they wanted more. Changing the view of a manufacturer in one vehicle could not have been an easy task, but the EV6 is so out there!
It’s taken Kia to new heights with it’s sporty design, luxury interior and high-class technology. If you took the Kia badges off the EV6, you’d struggle to say it was a Kia. In comparison, the EV6 is a slightly sportier sibling to Hyundai’s Ioniq 5.

A* to Kia!
As Kia’s first bespoke electric vehicle, the EV6 has certainly proven successful. You can choose between a 229bhp rear-wheel drive EV6 and a 325bhp four-wheel drive version. Both of which are fitted with a 77.4kWh battery as the smaller battery size is not available in the UK (because who would buy it?).
The more powerful EV6 has a total range of 314 miles, which is insane. That tops the Kia e-Niro’s by miles, literally, and the e-Niro is in no way slacking. The 22bhp version is capable of going even further, and has a range of 328 miles. At EVision you can hire the four-wheel drive Kia EV6.
When you need to charge your Kia EV6, it will take roughly 10 hours to charge when using a 7kWh wallbox charger. A brilliant upgrade on the EV6 is it’s charging capabilities, which could be due to further research and development since the e-Niro was produced. If you’re in a real rush to charge your EV6, you can now use a 250kWh charger which will take it from 0% – 100% in 18 minutes.
Possibly the most surprising statistic of them all is how fast this Kia is! It can reach 60mph in just 5.2 seconds, which beats the Nissan Ariya, BMW iX and even the Audi e-tron Sportback 55 quattro.
Modern, minimalist AND practical!
Inside, the Kia EV6 has a slightly different feel. It maintains the luxury and modern design the exterior has, but it’s much more. It’s extremely different to the interior of the e-Niro in both design and quality.
There’s some wonderful small touches which really sell the EV6 as a luxury, family SUV, including contrasting stitching on the seats and LED colour changing lights. Moving onto the technology, there’s a floating centre console with a 12.3-inch display. Unlike what you might find in a Tesla, Kia have opted to keep some traditional buttons and dials, which we really love.
It really moves the EV6 between stylish and convenient. Alongside that, there’s actually a really great amount of room in the EV6. Unlike some other EVs, where adults may find themselves squashed in the backseats, the EV6 has more than enough room for adult passengers.
Overall, Kia has made the EV6 a vehicle you’d enjoy driving. It works as a practical EV but has that slightly higher attractiveness of a sportier vehicle. While Kia has clearly splashed out on the design in some places, in others they’ve kept the basics, basic. And that’s exactly how it should be!
