The Tesla Model Y is now available to order in the UK! The Model Y is arguably Tesla’s most important and sought after vehicle. Here at EVision, we have ordered a bunch of Tesla Model Ys and cannot wait for them to join our growing Tesla fleet! Don’t forget you can rent a Tesla Model S, 3 or X from EVision today.
One of the biggest criticisms of Tesla’s Model 3 was the amount, or lack of, head room and boot space. Tesla has listened to the criticisms and designed a flawless electric vehicle, which we imagine will perform even greater than the Model 3.
You can order the Tesla Model Y from £54,990 now. Deliveries are expected to commence early in 2022. But first, let’s take a look at how the Model Y performs!
Specs
As with the Model 3, there are two versions of the Tesla Model Y at the moment; the Model Y Long Range and the Model Y Performance. The Long Range model will provide drivers with a larger range, as suggested in the name, of 315 miles. Whereas, the Performance model can travel roughly 298 miles before needing to be charged.
Both cars are fitted with two ultra-responsive electric motors and are all-wheel drive. This means you can drive the Model Y no matter the weather; rain, snow, mud and off-road. Plus, their acceleration stats are crazy. The ‘slower’ model of the two, the Long Range, has a maximum speed of 133mph and 0-60mph time of 4.8 seconds. Then there’s the Performance model which can reach 60mph in a rapid 3.5 seconds.
Despite the extremely long ranges on both vehicles, drivers will need to charge them at some point! When charging with a 7.4kW charge point, drivers can expect the Long Range vehicle to 80% in 11 hours and 15 minutes. This is compared to 12 hours and 15 minutes with the Model Y Performance.
Similarly, the Model Y Long Range and Model Y Performance can both be charged in just over an hour when using a 50kW rapid charger. However, the best stats come from Tesla’s Superchargers, where the Model Y can add 150 miles of range in just 15 minutes.
Design
From a glance, you probably wouldn’t be able to pick out the Model Y from a Model 3. That’s how similar they look! The Model Y is almost identical to the Model 3, except bigger. It leans more towards the SUV shape, similar to what we see in the Model X design, rather than following the Model 3’s saloon shape.
As we know, SUVs are extremely popular at the moment. They offer enough room for larger families, and most manufacturers offer at least one all-electric SUV model now. Tesla has done a brilliant job of merging the SUV shape with the sporty, classic feel of the Model 3.
The Model Y offers a lot more cabin and luggage space, as requested by Tesla drivers. There’s a 117 litre frunk under the bonnet and a 854 litre boot at the back. You can also fold down the rear seats independently, which create flexible storage options. At the moment, all Model Ys for the UK have five seats. Although, there are seven seater options available elsewhere but there is no word on if or when they will arrive here.
Plus, the added body height does provide plenty of head room for both front and rear passengers. There’s a HUGE non-opening sunroof too which makes the interior feel light and airy.
Innovation
As expected, Tesla continues to have some of the best tech in the game. They overpower all other manufacturers when it comes to their intuitive, self-driving technology.
The interior is dominated by that iconic 15.4-inch touchscreen that operates everything apart from the transmission, wipers and indicators. It really is the focal point of any Tesla and it almost feels like the Model Y has been built from the inside out.
All new Tesla models come with standard emergency braking, collision warning and blind-spot monitoring. The Model Y is fitted with some extra cool safety features, including 360 cameras fitted to the front, sides and rear to provide drivers with maximum visibility.
The Model Y goes a step beyond and has Full Self-Driving capability. This enables automatic driving on city streets and motorways, pending regulatory approval. It also has the ability to come find you anywhere in a parking lot.
