Tell Me More, Tell Me More, Was it Love at First Sight?
Upon first sight of our new addition to the EVision Electric Vehicles family a couple of things became instantly apparent. Firstly, the car is absolutely gorgeous to look at (although we will concede that this is entirely subjective… and maybe a bit biased).
Secondly, the Mokka-e looks exactly the same as the conventionally fuelled Vauxhall Mokka. This is something entirely intentional by the manufacturers who wanted to offer electric as an equal third fuel option. If it wasn’t for the charging port rather than fuel cap, and the ‘e’ motif on the vehicle, then there would be no difference at all from the outside. Vauxhall are really putting their money where their mouth is when they say that soon we will just be referring to electric cars simply as cars without having to give them the electric distinction.
The Inside Story
Okay, so the outer appearances have impressed us and hit the brief for us so far. What about inside the car?
Well this is where the Mokka-e pulls away from the conventional Mokka. The display screens inside the vehicle make the Mokka-e look several steps ahead of the Vauxhall Mokka. The Mokka-e contains a pure panel infotainment system made up of a central infotainment screen and a digital driver’s display. Both are expected in any modern electric vehicle and they add a touch of 21st Century class that is missing from the conventional Mokka.
The Mokka-e has found the perfect balance between technological advancement and familiarity. Yes, the car does look a lot more advanced than the basic looking Mokka. However, the Mokka-e maintains the familiarity of a traditional car which makes it enticing to new electric vehicle drivers and those who want to drive an electric vehicle without feeling like they are in some kind of futuristic machine. Familiar in this case doesn’t mean basic. The interior looks anything but basic with its stunning black interior and EV (Electric Vehicle) tech.
A Star Performance – Setting the Stage
Now that we have established that the Vauxhall Mokka-e looks good, what about how it performs?
The Mokka-e can accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 93mph. Although these stats will not trouble Elon Musk or any of the other premium electric car manufacturers, the performance is more than enough to cope with what the Mokka-e is best designed to do. For trips around town or a countryside cruise, do you really need super-fast acceleration? You certainly wouldn’t require a higher speed. Anything above 70mph on British roads is merely a number. The Mokka-e was never designed to take on other vehicles on the race track.
The more important stat is the range of the vehicle. The official range for the Mokka-e is 201 miles. However, in real world terms you will be looking at between 150 and 160 miles. This is still an excellent mileage for any car considering the average daily journey is less than 20 miles. That being said, if you do go on a longer journey and need to charge the vehicle, then you will be delighted to hear that the Mokka-e is compatible with the 100kWh rapid charging and can charge from 10%-80% in just 30 minutes. Enough time for a quick comfort break and coffee at the service station.
The Verdict
The Vauxhall Mokka-e is an exceptional small car. It can be compared to many other vehicles, but it doesn’t try to be anything that it isn’t. The Mokka-e looks classy and up-to-date without looking basic or too futuristic for people intimidated by too much change. The speed, acceleration, range and charge time for this electric vehicle are all perfect for what it sets out to achieve. For these reasons and more we believe that the Mokka-e is ahead of many of its compatriots who struggle with a proper identity. The Vauxhall Mokka-e is a car you need to see and experience first hand. Once you get behind the wheel you will be amazed at how well the car handles and how addictive it is.
