Why should you hire a Tesla?

Hire a Tesla

In the last couple of weeks it was announced that self-driving cars could be allowed on the road by the end of 2021. How exciting! Now we know what you’re thinking, what does this have to do with electric vehicles? However, we are covering everything you need to know about the upcoming change, and the original self-driving car, the Tesla. Find out why you should hire a Tesla, and experience a new way of driving.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT SELF-DRIVING CARS?

When the phrase ‘self-driving cars’ is thrown around, most drivers would think of autonomous vehicles that do not actually require someone to sit in the driver’s seat. Although this sounds incredibly futuristic, it’s not something that has been produced yet. The latest change will legalise the use of automated lane-keeping systems (ALKS).

The Department of Transport has said that the technology will take control of the position as well as speed of a vehicle in a single lane. A limit of 37mph has been put in place to ensure drivers are kept safe.

Does this mean drivers can travel hands-free?

The government has announced that although they will still need to be in the driving seat, drivers will be able to drive hands-free.

Unlike Autopilot settings in a Tesla, which we will touch on later on, drivers will not need to keep their hands on the steering wheel. Nonetheless, the driver will need to remain alert, and be ready to take over the system within 10 seconds. Failing to do so will result in the car hazard lights being turned on and slowing the vehicle down to stop.

What is the advantage of driving these types of vehicles?

The introduction of self-driving cars is a huge step for technology and the way our roads operate. Most drivers would be quite skeptical to this change, and quite rightly so, however ‘self-driving’ cars do have their benefits.

Accidents on the road

Accidents happen on the roads everyday, and some of these are mainly caused by a lack of concentration and human error. The efficiency of evolving technology has been proven to reduce the amount of accidents and mistakes made by some drivers.

Automated driving systems could prevent 47,000 serious accidents and save 3,900 lives over the next decade in an attempt to reduce the amount of errors made by drivers.

Despite the great potential of ALKs in self-driving cars, we urge drivers not to expect the vehicle to do the job of a driver. In fact, the technology has been introduced to be used purely as additional support when driving.

WHICH TESLA WOULD YOU  CHOOSE?

As we mentioned previously, Tesla is one the first vehicles to introduce self-driving settings in a roundabout way. Specific Tesla models were manufactured with an Autopilot setting. It is very similar to ALKS, however they are the next step up. The main difference is that the EV can switch lanes with the assistance of cameras around the car. Although the driver is able to let the car do a lot more independently, some form of physical contact with the steering wheel needs to be made at all times. If you’re looking to experience Autopilot, the option to hire a Tesla is available to you without the hefty price tag.
