The latest EV news comes from Ford. After the announcement from Jaguar to have a fully electric line up by 2025, Ford has now joined the bandwagon to ditch the unwanted emissions. We all thought that the Ford Mustang Mach-e is the first pure electric car, but we’re digging up it’s forgotten predecessor, the Ford Focus Electric.

ABOUT FORD
Ford, the car brand that we all know and love, was originally established in 1903. It is a common misconception that Ford is a British manufacturer, when in fact it is actually American.
The first factory was set up in Michigan. Henry Ford joined the company as a Vice President and Chief Engineer, alone with a 25.5% share. Until July 1906, when he then took over as the primary owner.
Ford has come a long way since the first car was sold in 1903. Which was essentially an engine mounted on a frame, fitted with four bicycle wheels. Luckily since then technology has evolved, and the main assembly line in Michigan was set up.
In line with government regulations banning sales of all new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, Ford has revealed their latest EV news.
THE LATEST EV NEWS
At the beginning of February, Ford Motors revealed that they are aiming to have an exclusive line up of purely electric cars by 2030.
In order to reach this momentous milestone, they have recently invested over one billion pounds into an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Cologne, Germany. Which is the first all electric facility in the UK for Ford. In turn this will increase the roll out of electric cars to the UK and Europe.
Ford is hoping that by mid 2026, 100% of its passenger vehicles range in Europe alone will be capable of emitting zero emissions. Whether they are fully electric or plug-in hybrids. Then by 2030, they will aim to offer only pure electric cars.
2020 was a tough year for every business due to the pandemic, however Ford was hit hard when their sales fell by 27% last year alone. By making the decision to only offer electric cars by the end of the decade, along with other companies will hopefully give their sales the push they need.
FORD’S FIRST ELECTRIC CAR
Currently the talk of the town, the Ford Mustang Mach-e is due to hit the market in 2023. We can’t wait to see it!
However, most people think this is the first pure electric car available from Ford, but little did we all know that there was actually a previous model available before this.
The Ford Focus electric, which was originally released in the US in 2011, and later in 2013 in the UK.
Battery
It was originally made with a 23kWh battery, and later rolled out with a 33 kWh battery. Ford claimed that it was able to comfortably do 100 miles before it would need charging. Fortunately, technology has massively grown in the last few years. Now the range could practically double on a car such as this.
The front-wheel drive five-door hatchback managed to reach 62mph in 11.7 seconds, and a top speed of 84 mph. Similar to the Nissan Leaf.
Interior
The interior of the Ford Focus Electric practically mimics its petrol/diesel counterpart. Drivers had a central infotainment screen, all of the necessary controls in easy reach and even a simplistic design that was easy on the eyes. What could a driver want?
Despite looking exactly like a standard Ford Focus, it never went down a hit.
Did you know that a total of 24 Ford Focus Electrics were registered in the UK? However the idea never took off and none were actually purchased by the public. We are certain that the latest EV manufactured by Ford will be a completely different story!
