The Kia e-Niro is heading to the UK, and EVision Electric Vehicle Hire are going to be the first to receive it. Following some amazing reviews (the e-Niro has already won the WhatCar? Car of the Year Award) I’m going to explore the reasons why so many think that the e-Niro really is the ‘goodfella’ of the EV world (and yes, there will be De Niro movie puns scattered throughout this write-up).
A Popular Car
Saying that the Kia e-Niro is quite popular is like saying the Arctic is quite cold. The e-Niro has been so popular, in fact, that if you wanted to buy one you will have to wait until the middle of 2020 at least. The demand for the e-Niro has far outstripped the supply, with battery production being the key reason for this. The battery producers just can’t keep up!
So why hire a Kia e-Niro? Well, there are many reasons for you to hire one. The main reason would have to be the fact that the range on the car is quite exceptional. Although the e-Niro can’t reach the 300 mile range that was originally reported under WLTA conditions, the revised range of 282 is still phenomenal. Even the 253 miles of real world range as reported by WhatCar? Is still more than enough to take on the big boys from Jaguar, Audi and Tesla. Not bad at all for a small SUV. The acceleration of the Kia e-Niro is also sublime. Taking you from 0-60mph in just 7.5 seconds, even the car reviewers have stated that you need to be careful on the accelerator due to how responsive it is.
Space – The Final Frontier (Yes, I Know it’s Not a De Niro Film. But it Works!)
How does the Kia e-Niro match up when it comes to space in the cabin? Well, it does very well, thank you very much. There is a sumptuous 451 litres of space in the trunk. To put that into proper English terms, this is the equivalent of just over 180 mugs of tea (yes, I looked it up). The boot is not only spacious it is also very practical as well. The squared shape and (almost) no lip to overcome mean that it is perfect for storing luggage for any getaway (5 carry-on bags has been quoted in reviews). Even in the cabin itself there are pockets of storage all over the car, including the ever-present cup holders and door pockets, and none of it sticks out or looks forced. Everything has been tastefully put together by the Kia team.
The Kia e-Niro even overcomes many of the issues encountered by rear seat passengers (they are people too!). The headroom in the rear cabin of the car is perfect for any of your extra-tall guests, and it is done without making the rear of the vehicle look mis-shaped in any way. There is also one other fantastic bonus for the occupant of the centre seat in the rear of the car, as you don’t have to contend with that annoying raised section coming up from the floor that can make it awkward to position the legs correctly. Even Ekaterina Lisina would have no issues as a passenger in this incredible machine.
What else is there to know?
As with any new car, especially an electric car, there will be tons of little bits here and there to discover on the car. So I won’t analyse this and that, I will just pick out a couple of areas of interest to me and let you discover the rest for yourself when you rent a Kia e-Niro from EVision
Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference. For example, the e-Niro has a light that comes on when you open the charge point so you can actually see what you are doing in the dark. I can’t be the only person who has had trouble finding the socket correctly without being able to see it. Kia have given serious thought to this small problems that have never existed with petrol and diesel cars. I can’t say that I ever remember going to a petrol station which was not incredibly well lit (and I imagine that lighting will become a feature at many charging hubs in the near future as well).
Charging the Kia e-Niro is an extremely straightforward practice too. Korea initially took up the CHAdeMO, however, they quickly changed to other charging types (mainly type 1 of North America with some type 2 European standard), so the Kia e-Niro will come with a type 2 charging port, rather than the CHAdeMO port that we see from Japanese cars (Nissan, I’m looking at you). And as with all new cars coming onto the market, the e-Niro will be CCS fast charge compatible. The fact that you not only get a large range, but you also get to ‘fill your tank’ quickly means that this really is a great car for going on road trips or carrying out a lot of miles in a day in general. So whether you are a long-distance traveller or a taxi driver, the Kia e-Niro is perfect for you.
